Scope and Contents of the Materials

Documentation consists of three pieces of correspondence regarding political matters and school board; manuscript of "A Military Hero from Sweden in the Norwegian Regiment," October 14, 1913; three speeches; statement against a bank, 1915.

Biographical Note

Rossing was born on Apr. 7, 1840 in Norway.  He immigrated to America in 1857.  Settled in Lafayett Co., Wis. Attended Warren, Ill., Academy 1859-61. Enlisted in 15th Wis. regiment and served 3 years. He fought in the American Civil War and then was a farmer and businessman in Wisconsin and Iowa. Engaged in Mercantile business in Wisconsin, 1866-69. Came to Bode, Iowa, 1869. Retired to Decorah, IA., 1913. He was a benefactor of Luther College. Married to Maria Anderson. She died in 1916. Mr. Rossing died June 25, 1923.

Rossing ble født i Norge. Han utvandra til Amerika i 1857. Han kjempet i den amerikanske borgerkrigen og jobbet senere som bonde og forretningsmann i Wisconsin og Iowa. Han ga penger til Luther College.
