Biographical Note for Brandt, Walther I. (1893-1958) :

Walther Brandt was born in Brandt, South Dakota to Rev. Realf Ottesen (R.O.) Brandt and Mathilde (Lettie) Galby Brandt in 1893. He attended Albion Academy, then graduated from Luther College in 1915. He earned his master's degree and doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1917 and 1920, respectively.

Dr. Brandt was a historian of medieval history and the Reformation, teaching at the University of Wisconsin, Western Reserve University, Iowa State University, and City College in Brooklyn, NY. His publications included a translation of the works of Martin Luther. He was involved in the Lutheran Church, elected to the board of the Evangelical Lutheran Church's Board of Education and particpating in Zion Lutheran Church in Brooklyn.

Dr. Brandt married Elsie Torgerson and they had three children. He died in Brooklyn, NY February 5, 1958.
