Biographical Note

Born September 4, 1882 in Bode, Iowa. Graduated from Luther College (1903) and Luther Seminary (1906). He was ordained in 1907 and served as a pastor in several parishes. Served as President of Luther Seminary, 1930-1958, vice-president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (1925-1948), and both as vice-president and president of the American Lutheran Conference (1930-1934, 1934-1938).
