Hove was born March 25, 1863 in Northwood, Iowa. He received his bachelor’s degree from Luther in 1884. From 1891 to 1893, he was a religion professor at Luther and the college pastor from 1891 to 1894. Prior to his career at Luther, Hove was a pastor in Portland, Oregon, and after leaving Luther, he was a pastor in Mankato, Minnesota.

Hove ble født i Northwood, Iowa, 25. mars 1863. Han tok bachelorgraden ved Luther College i 1884. Fra 1891 til 1893 jobbet han som religionsprofessor ved Luther og som collegeprest fra 1891 til 1894. Før han ble ansatt ved Luther var han prest i Portland, Oregon, og etter han sluttet på Luther, jobbet han som prest i Mankato, Minnesota. Han ble senere professor ved Luther Seminary, 1901-1917.
