Abstract

This series contains publications relating to the history of Luther College, Norwegian-American immigration, Lutheranism in America, and Winneshiek County and surrounding area.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

Ranging as early as 1890 to as recent as 2003, this series holds books that cover the history of Luther College, Norwegian-American immigration, Lutheranism in America, and Winneshiek County and surrounding area.  Included are official college histories, privately published reference materials, biographies, and directories.  Some of the materials are in English, while others are in Norwegian, and a small portion of books exist in both languages.

Biographical Note

Located in the small northeast Iowa town of Decorah, Luther College is an undergraduate liberal arts institution of about 2,500 students. The college is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Founded in 1861 by Norwegian immigrants, Luther offers more than 60 majors and preprofessional and certificate programs leading to the bachelor of arts degree. Its mission statement emphasizes faith, leadership, and community service. Luther College provides equal opportunity for all qualified persons in its educational programs and activities.
