Ylvisaker graduated from Luther College in 1902.  He served as a pastor and chaplain. He was a member of the Luther College Board of Trustees from 1942 to 1947.

Born March 23, 1882, in Sogndal, Norway. Came to the U.S. in 1882. Educated at Luther College, 1902 B.A.; U. of Minn., 1902-03; 1921-23; Luther Seminary, 1906 C.T.; U. of Oslo, 1923-24. Served pastorates at Mohall, N.D.; 1906-08; Christ and St. Stephens, St. Paul, 1908-10; Our Savior's, Chicago, 1911-18; College Church, San Diego, 1951- Ex.-sec., Young People's Luther League (Y.P.L.L.), 1919-41; Director, Ser. Com., NLC, 1941-47; Director, American Relief, Germany, 1947-48. President, Military Chaplains' Association., 1938-47. Author of several books.
