Biographical Note
Charles G. Stoen was born May 20, 1898 in Pleasant Township. He graduated from Luther College in 1922, where he participated in the Student Army Training Corps and Irving Literary Society. Stoen spent his career in education, working as a superintendent in Baker, North Dakota and teaching social science and math at Decorah High School for ten years. He was elected Winneshiek County's County Superintendent of Schools in 1933, a position he held until his retirement in 1964. Stoen married Nellie Sivesind in 1922. The couple had 5 children. Stoen passed away on October 15, 1992.
