Historical Note: Vernon Warfield Knudson was born December 28, 1908 in Holmen Wisconsin. He had one older brother named Anker L Knudson. Vernon graduated from West Salem High School in 1928 in West Salem, Wisconsin. He then came to Luther in 1928. While at Luther he took part in many activites. He was in Amphictynoic, the Class Treasure (2nd year), Class Vice-President (3rd year), Treasurer Musical Union (3rd year), President Musical Union (4th year), Chips Staff (1st, 2nd, and 3rd year), Circulation Manager of the Chips (4th year), Concert Band (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th), College Orchestra (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th), Drum Corps (1st), and Pep Band. He then graduated in 1932 with a B.A in Chemistry. He came back to Luther in 1936 to go on the Band Tour. In 1937, he married Leona Laura Parmenter Knudson. They had three children Diane, Mary Kay, and Doug. Vernon died on December 13, 1945 at the age of 36 in Boyd County, Kentucky. He was later buried in Neshonoc Cemetry in West Salem, Wisconsin
