Abstract

Records documenting the activities of the Entreprenuership Club at Luther College, which among other activities ran the non-profit company Life Refrigeration.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection contains annual reports, meeting minutes, memos, news clippings, notes, proposals, programs, and speeches relatating to the Entrepreneurship Club, the Erdman Prize, and the Estrem Endowment. Dated 1979-2011.

Collection Historical Note

The Entrepreneurship Club was founded in 1995 as SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise). The name changed in 1997 to LIFE (Luther In Free Enterprise). The name changed again in 2005 to Entrepreuneurship Club.

The Malcom and Maybelle Estrem Endowed Program for Entrepreneurial Studies was established in 1991 to enhance the study of entrepreneurship as a program within the Economics and Business department.

The Daryl and Audrey Erdman Prize for Entrepeneurship was founded in 1989 by Daryl and Audrey Erdman, '61. The prize was to be granted to students "who have demonstrated exceptional entreprenurial skills through their personal endeavors to start up and to manage their own business."

Biographical Note

Professor of economics and management at Luther College from 1975 to 2011. While at Luther, Leake served as the Luther College tennis coach (1975-2001), director of staff personnel (1977-1981), founded the Entrepreneurship Club and served as its faculty advisor, and founded the Richard and Penny Leake Endowed Tennis Fund in 1998 with his wife.
