Biographical Note for Berven, Kristen Svendsen (1845-1913) :

Berven was born in Ullensvang, Hardanger, Norway on August 12, 1845.  He attended Stords Seminary from 1865 to 1868 and was a teacher at Solheimsvikens civil school from 1869 to 1875.  In 1875 Berven emigrated to America.  He was a pastor at churches in Red Wing, Minnesota from 1876-1888; Lounsberry, South Dakota from 1888-1893; Bradley, South Dakota from 1893-1896; and Lily South Dakota from 1896 to 1900.  Berven died on May 28, 1913. 


Berven ble født i Ullensvang, Hardanger, 12. august 1845. Han studerte ved Stord Seminar fra 1865 til 1868 og underviste ved Solheimsvikens Borgerskole fra 1869 til 1875, da han utvandra til Amerika. Han jobbet som prest i Red Wing, Minnesota, fra 1876 til 1888; i Lounsberry, Sør Dakota, fra 1888 til 1893; i Bradley, Sør Dakota, fra 1893 til 1896 og Lily, Sør Dakota, fra 1896 til 1900. Berven var gift med Ingeborg Saxe. Han døde 28. mai 1913.
