Biographical Note
Henrietta Jane Kemp was born on April 10, 1944, in Davenport, Iowa, to Henrietta Jane (Bonnell) and Milton Zagel. After attending University High School in Iowa City, she graduated from the University of Iowa in 1966 with a BA in History and German. Jane Kemp is a Professor Emerita from the Department of Library and Information Services at Luther College. She earned her BA in History and German from the University of Iowa and her MLS from the University of Pittsburgh. She worked as a librarian at the Alaska State Library and Juneau Public Library before starting at Preus Library in 1981. During her time at Luther College, she was responsible for Circulation, Public Services, Rare Books and Special Collections and served as department head for the library department for a number of years. In addition, she was the Supervisor of the Fine Arts Collection, overseeing management of the visual arts owned by the College. She continues to teach in the College’s Paideia I program.
