Historical Note:

Born on March 2, 1886 in Entumeni, Zulu (South Africa), to Christopher and Marie (Hoel) Faye. Attended St. John's College in Sussex, England, 1901-1904. Immigrated to the United States in 1906 and attended Luther College (1906-1909) earning a bachelor's degree. He went on to earn a C.T. from Luther Seminary (1909-1912). Faye served as a missionary and taught in Natal, South Africa from 1912-1922.

Returning to the United States in 1922, he went on to earn an M.A. from Minnesota University (1922-1924), and an MLIS from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (1926- x). He also attended the Graduate School at Concordia Seminary (1924-1925). He taught at Concordia College in St. Paul, Minnesota, 1922-1924, and Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota, 1925-1962. He served as a cataloger (1927-1952) and professor of linguistics (1945-1952) at the University of Illinois. He passed away in 1967.
