Scope and Contents of the Materials
Collection contains a diary kept by Knutson during the 1936 European Jubilee band tour and large photograph of Concert Band taken in Washington D.C. in 1936.
Biographical Note
Howard T. Knutson was born in Whalen, Minnesota on February 3, 1916. He attended Luther College and graduated in 1937. Knutson played clarinet in the Luther College Concert Band, including during the European tour in 1936, as well as participating in gymnastics. Knutston spent his early career in teaching and served in the army before completing graduate degrees in education. The majority of his career was at the University of Northern Iowa where he eventually became the first Dean of the Education Department. Knutson passed away on December 7, 2006.
